Kyrgyztan is a former state of the Soviet Union located in Central Asia. It is considered to be one of the poorest country in the region. Most of its income comes from agricultural exports to other states of the Soviet Bloc but after the dissolution of the USSR, Kyrgyztan lost its major agricultural market.

Kyrgyztan historically sits on the path of the silk road, and one of its charms as a tourist destination is the reliance on old methods of manufacturing goods and farming. Aside from tourism, its major economic resource are its people and untapped natural resources such as metal and mineral deposits.
